Hours of Operation

Monday through Friday, 7:30AM - 5:30PM

JELC operates on a similar calendar to the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion which means that JELC closes in observance of some Jewish holidays as well as some federal holidays.

Tuition & Fees

Effective fall 2007, the base rate is $786.50 for infants up to 18 months old and $753.50 for toddlers 18 months through three years-old.

Like schools, JELC is a non-profit organization and fundraising is necessary to provide the center with extra activities and supplies. Families have individual, annual fundraising commitments of $350. One of the board positions is a VP of fundraising. This person organizes and coordinates a variety fundraising opportunities for families to do individually (like selling Longaberger baskets) and as an entire co-op (like bake sales and car washes). Families who choose not to participate in organized fundraising can always remit the balance as a tax-deductible donation.

Waiting List

We know waiting lists are frustrating. Our Director will attempt to give you an honest estimate of your wait time.

JELC's waiting list time can vary from a few weeks up to two years. Since many of our parents are students, spaces tend to become available in the spring and summer. In the mean time, we strongly encourage you to visit JELC and speak to JELC parents.

Our Weekly Parent Hour Commitment

JELC can keep tuition reasonable because of the cooperative model. Parents commit to working at JELC three hours per week. During these "parent hours", parents will find themselves performing a variety of tasks including childcare, light housekeeping, or light maintenance. Parents may also choose to buy out a maximum of two hours at $120/month or $15 per bought out hour.

Parent hours typically must be completed during JELC's hours of operation. The Director tries to work with families so that the parent hours scheduled meet both JELC's needs as well as the needs of the family.

Parents also serve JELC in another way--by holding a parent job which is typically completed outside JELC's operational hours (like purchasing supplies for the center).

Staff & Parent Board

JELC has a Director as well as five other full-time staff members and two part-time staff.

JELC's parent board consists of a President, VP Human Relations, VP of Jewish Education, VP of Fundraising, VP of Communication, VP of Finance, and VP of Facilities.

Other expectations of JELC families

JELC families are what makes JELC run smoothly. To this end, there are other activities and responsibilities required. One example of this is the 'JELC workday' which occurs at least four times a year. On Workday, all the parents pitch in to do things like deep cleaning, painting, and minor repairs. Although it may not seem like much, when parents work together to help maintain and beautify the facility, money is saved--and of course this savings is passed on to families. each family is responsible for participating in at least two workdays per year
